Holiday Tablescape + DIY Chalkboard Signs

The day after Thanksgiving, I did not go Black Friday shopping…. well, I did do a little online ASOS shopping and take a quick trip to Walmart in the evening, but that was after the crazies had mostly left. Mostly….let’s face it, Walmart is always a little crazy. But anyways, my main goal was to grab a few things for my new Christmas tablescape I was envisioning. I also knew that I wanted to use the chalkboards I had bought for my wedding and create a chalkboard sign. It was a lot easier than you would think. Also! Everything below is either from local antique stores (you can order online from The Country House, though!) or Walmart and super budget friendly.

See the end of the post for details on prices and where to buy!

Chalkboard signs have always intimidated me. But then, I realized all you really need is a chalk marker and a little creativity. If you are terrible at lettering or calligraphy, there are stencils you can buy as shown below, but with the width of the chalkboards I had, the stencils I found were a bit too big and I wanted to try it free handed anyways. The good thing about chalk markers is they do erase (this is key!!), but they look so much better than regular chalk! So with a damp paper towel on hand, patience and a few tries…. I finally ended up with this. I think it turned out pretty well!

Now for the rest of the tablescape. I already had the large “Joy” sign and just needed a few more things to spice up the table. I fell in love with the sweater wrapped candles and knew I wanted to re-use the small crate that held gourds this fall for pinecones and gold ornaments. I liked the idea of mixing metals by adding in a few silver little creatures. I like the sleek, modern reindeer since the rest is a bit more rustic. Throw in a bit of garland and we were good to go!
