A Macro-Friendly Superbowl Party

Every time I get a chance to entertain, I get really excited about planning the menu. It can literally be one person coming over and I will plan an elaborate meal. I’m weird like that.

Last week, I decided I wanted to have a macro-friendly Superbowl party and the recipes I came up with….amazing.

First, we started off with fruit salad and a veggie tray. My son was a happy kid. He pulls a chair up to the counter and sits there eating the entire tray himself.

Now for the exciting stuff. First up, Buffalo Chicken Dip. I swear, this is actually macro-friendly!

I used this recipe from Bodybuilding Bros and baked some pita bread to go with it.

Macros for the Dip: 4 g fat, 8 g carbs, 51 g protein (recipe he made serves 1)

Next, we had some freaking awesome Turkey Chili, if I do say so myself. I love kidney beans and added carrots and kale to make it even more amazing.

Ingredients:

– Coconut Spray Oil (enough to brown the ground meat)

– 2 stalks of Celery

– 28 oz. can of Crushed Tomatoes

– 2 Garlic Cloves, minced

– 2 tbs Chili Powder

– 1/2 tsp Cumin

– 1/2 tsp Paprika

– 1/2 tsp Dried Oregano

– 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper

– 3 cups of Water

– 1  can Kidney Beans

– 1/4 cup Carrots, shredded

– 1/2 cup Onion, chopped

– 1/2 cup Kale, chopped

–  2 lbs Ground Turkey

Spray pan with oil and brown the ground turkey. Add the onion, celery, carrot and garlic and sautée until onion is translucent. Add the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil then simmer on low heat with the lid on for at least 30 minutes.

Macros for Chili: 13.5 g fat, 25.8 g carbs, 33 g protein (recipe yields 6 servings)

Finally, we had baked buffalo and barbecue drumsticks, or my version of wings. Just marinate them in the sauce overnight (or for a few hours), place on a foil lined baking sheet, and pour some sauce over top. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 mins to an hour. I had two baking sheets, so I definitely needed the whole hour.

I used Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Sauce (no macros!) and Kraft’s Original Barbecue Sauce.

Macros for Buffalo Drumsticks: 12 g fat, 0.2 g carbs, 23 g protein (for one drumstick)

Macros for Barbecue Drumsticks: 12 g fat, 6.2 g carbs, 23 g protein (for one drumstick)

This Superbowl Party has seriously motivated me to get even more creative with my macro-friendly recipes. You can definitely expect to see more recipes coming soon! Because, you really don’t have to eat PLAIN food, just PLANNED food. 🙂 I’m so clever.
