Best of Too Faced Cosmetics | A Brand Overview

Today marks a start to a new series. Every once in a while I will be doing a brand overview of the stand out products, best sellers or most popular products from a brand. There will always be more products I haven’t tried that you might love, but buying everything from an entire brand isn’t feasible to someone like me. Aka non-millionaires. Either way, this should give you an idea of the brand and some of their products!

I have been promising this Too Faced review since I hauled it a while back and I’m finally ready to share my thoughts! Before I bought this stuff, I had never actually tried Too Faced. Oh the shock. The horror. I know. I felt like some of their stuff was gimmicky (Old Me: “Why should I buy a product just because it smells like chocolate, uh no thanks, I don’t even like chocolate…”), but now I’m mad at myself for not trying the brand sooner!

And yes, I do like the chocolate smell now too…

So I tried the La Creme Lipstick, Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, Melted Lipstick, Better Than Sex Mascara, Primed and Poreless, and the Shadow Insurance (not pictured here). I will say that the one thing I missed out on that I need to try is the Chocolate Bar eyeshadow palette. I’m sorry I don’t have that to review for you today because I know it’s well loved by many!

First up! The Better Than Sex Mascara. It looks dried out, worn and scratched up in the photo below and that’s because it is! It was well loved and a new addition to my top 3 favorite mascaras. I loved this on it’s own, but also loved pairing it with my usual go to, Cover Girl Lash Blast to separate the lashes a bit more. I am in love with the way this mascara makes my lashes look. It adds more length to my lashes than the Lash Blast, but if you apply too much it can get clumpy, which is why I use the combo. Definitely recommend trying this, just wish it was cheaper!

Next, the Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer. Another love for me from this brand. It is a great color for me. I use it for contouring and bronzing. It adds the right amount and shade of color to my skin and I am in love! I had wanted to try out the Bobbi Brown and Makeup Forever bronzers, but I am now in a committed relationship with Chocolate Soleil.

Now for the primers. Yes, the Shadow Insurance isn’t pictured and that gives you an idea of my feelings for it. Meh. I lost it. It worked just like the Urban Decay Shadow Insurance for me. They do their job. That being said, I prefer to use colored bases that also do a great job as primers (paint pots, color tattoos, aqua eyes…) so I usually skip regular primers altogether.

The Primed & Poreless was fine as well. When applying this, it feels nice and smooth. It doesn’t create flawless skin when used alone like it says, but I see a slight smoothing effect on my pores. When used under makeup, my foundation or tinted moisturizer does apply nicely and I feel like I can see a slight difference in smoothness around my pore area. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t look “poreless” and I don’t feel like it did much to make my makeup last, so while this is just fine, I won’t pull it out to actually use very often.

Finally, the lip products! Yes, please. I knew I had to try the Melted Lipsticks and the color Melted Chihuahua stood out most to me!

On my lips, this shade looks less mauve and more brown. It is still a shade that I think is gorgeous, but I have to get used to wearing such a brown shade on my lips.

In regards to the formula, I like it. It dried mostly matte and had fairly good staying power. That being said, lately I have been going for a bit more sheer lip colors with a sheen so I haven’t used this as much as I thought I would. I know I will get lots of use out of it in the fall and winter!

I also wanted to try their regular lipstick line, so I ordered their La Creme Lipstick in the shade Cinnamon Kiss.

The shade is actually pretty similar to Melted Chihuahua when swatched next to one another, but on the lips its a whole different story. This lipstick fulfills my current obsession with creamy, natural shades with a slight sheen (no chunky sparkle). The formula on this is great, the color is gorgeous and everything about this lipstick makes it so very wearable on a daily basis.

And that’s all I tried! Once again, I will definitely be trying the Chocolate Bar eyeshadow palette soon. What else should I try?!

My Closing Thoughts…

The Can’t-Live-Withouts: Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer and Better Than Sex Mascara. Two new essentials for me. I had so many high end bronzers and mascaras on my list to try, but now I think I will just repurchase these for some time!

The I’m-Happy-I-Have-Its: The lip products. They’re not holy grail but I love the colors and will definitely get use out of them. I want to try more of both, especially the lipsticks which have such a wearable, natural texture and sheen. I’m sure I will also be ordering more of the Melted Lipsticks this fall when I’m back on my matte lips band wagon.

The Take-It-or-Leave-Its: The primers. Like I said, they work fine but I rarely pull them out to do my makeup.

The Throw-This-Shit-Aways: None! All of them have some good qualities and, while I wasn’t overly impressed by the primers, they definitely don’t belong in this category.

So, what do I think of the brand? Well, that’s it, I’m a new Too Faced convert. I love what the brand stands for (read more about them here) and while I still see why I originally thought some of their products were gimmicky (heart shaped makeup isn’t a must, but it’s cute), they consistently bring out quality, cruelty free products. I just wish they had drugstore prices!
