Currently Loving, Coveting, & Not-So-Liking | Monday Make-over

I’ve had a pretty hectic week with my real job (ya know, that job that actually pays the bills), so strangely enough this will be my second beauty-related post in a row on the blog! That is quite unusual for Strong Hungry Girl. That being said, I made something prettttyyy tasty this weekend for meal prep that I am excited to share, so back to my regularly schedule food & fitness posts soon 🙂

So, yes, I’ve talked about some beauty products recently, but I realized I haven’t done a little favorites (and not-so favorites) in the past few months! Who doesn’t love talking about things they love, hate and are sitting in their Sephora shopping cart?

Not me!

Currently Loving

Mac Face & Body and Pro-Longwear Concealer

This is nothing new. I just had to throw it out there that I’m still loving this combo! I love the finish and coverage of Face & Body. It’s light coverage, but just what I need on an every day basis. Your skin shines through! Top that off with some Pro-Longwear Concealer (which is full coverage) only in the spots you need it and it lasts all day, making me a very happy girl.

Mac Lipstick in Syrup

This is a rediscovered product for me. I haven’t been wearing much lipstick lately but one day I decided to dig deep into my collection and found this baby again. It is my all time favorite Mac lipstick. I’m so happy I pulled it back out. It is the perfect, wearable, my-lips-but-better color and the perfect finish (a lustre) for a little shine and a natural, yet polished looking lip.

Mac (yes, more Mac) Turquatic Perfume

I know, Mac, Mac, Mac. It’s because, while I love playing with other brands, a lot of Mac products are my go-to, no-fuss essentials.

I had to include this one because a. I used up my entire first bottle, which I don’t recall ever doing with any other perfume, so yay, b. my husband bought me my second bottle for my birthday last month and c. this is the only perfume I have that seriously causes scent recall. It takes me straight back to when I first met my husband. I can’t describe it well, but I can tell you what it’s not…it’s not my most girly perfume, it’s not fruity or sweet. The description on Mac’s website isn’t any more helpful. It literally contains “anemone” as a fragrance. Really? Just go smell it.

Jordana Fabuliner Liquid Liner

Cheap, yet effective. I swear I have had mine for far too long (gross, sorry) and it hasn’t dried out at all. I find it really easy to use. I love the felt tip applicator and while I’m no expert at winged liner, I can pull off a pretty nice, wing with this- and quickly. I don’t have time to waste on winged liner 🙂

Burt’s Bees Lip Balm

I can’t believe this is a favorite of mine, but it really, really is! I have never tried much Burt’s Bees before, but my dad bought me this recently. I never knew I would love to slightly “buzzy” (bee pun?) feeling it gives my lips, but I do. Previously, Jack Black’s lip balm and Nivea Touch of Smoothness were my favorite for chapped lips, but this might take the cake. It’s moisturizing and I love how it makes my lips look. Nice and smooth, but not super shiny, just…. so. perfectly. nice. I also think it’s magical and that the tingly feeling actually makes my lips look bigger, but that might be my imagination.

Master Palette by Mario by Anastasia Beverly Hills

I usually have some restraint when it comes to eye palettes. After wasting enough money trying to collect all of Urban Decay’s over the top palettes (hello, I Love NYC pallet sitting unused in my cabinet), I realized I just don’t use them. I am pretty selective even when it comes to my neutral palettes because, while they are usually gorgeous and I would use the shadows, I just don’t get enough use out of them and already have similar shades.

That being said, I really want Mario’s Master Palette. Not because of the hype of him being Kim K’s makeup artist… this palette just looks gorgeous. The neutral shades are right up my alley and the more “out there” shades in the palette are ones that I would definitely wear. I am dying to try this. Let me know if you have and what you think!

Nars Velvet Lip Glides

I used to be a Nars fanatic, but haven’t bought from them in a long while! These looks amazing. It’s like a lip gloss mixed with a lipstick (from what I understand). The finish isn’t super shiny and gives off good pigmentation. From the videos and reviews I’ve seen, they look so smooth and comfortable and I’ve seen and I fell in love with a few shades- Playpen and Bound look right up my alley.

Currently Not-So-Liking

Tres Emme Mousse

Okay, so this product isn’t such a complete fail. I totally love this as a drugstore/cheap option for my hair on those lazy days where I want to look decent (aka my natural mess won’t do) but I don’t want to put any heat on it (aka put any effort into it). That being said, I’m so mad that I bought the firm hold version. Anyone else go through that phase in high school when you “scrunched” your hair with so much strong-hold gel that your hair was hard and looked wet all day long?

Anyways, yes, I do love tres emme mousse normally. The firm hold is crap. I keep trying to use only the smallest amount and by the end of the day my hair is a rats nest and it takes literal blood, sweat and tears to have normal hair again.

Liquid Lipsticks

This is a vague one, but can we please talk about it for a second? I am about to be such a hater because I can’t say I won’t ever wear liquid lipsticks and I can’t say I dislike them all. That being said, is this the ONLY thing girls on social media wear nowadays? Are dry, matte lips the only look they are going for any more? Let’s be real, a matte lip can be a cool look and I adore some of the shades, but does anybody wear them in real life?  As much as I want to wear some of the liquid lipsticks I have, I can’t find an occasion where I would look even remotely normal wearing such an intense 90’s looking lip (that also dries your lips out, might I add) except for my sister’s wedding, which admittedly, it did work out well for.

Lancome Juicy Shaker

People went crazy over these. I was obsessed with the idea. An oil? That makes my lips look juicy? That won’t make my husband look at me like I’m crazy (although he always says he likes when I wear a bold lip) or my sister tell me I look like my aunt in the 90’s (cough, see above)?

Yes, please. Lancome says, “Juicy Shaker’s bi-phase technology delivers the first pigmented lip oil with 2 distinct phases. The first phase is a transparent oil phase for a comfortable non-sticky shine. The second is the pigment phase for a shot of color. Shake Juicy Shaker like a cocktail shaker to mix the pigments and oil. The cushion applicator enhances application by delivering the perfect ‘shot’ of addictive non-sticky shine and a sheer tint of color to your lips that is simply irresistible.”

Pigmented?! PSH! I can get the slightest tint out of them. I’m actually okay with that, I don’t always need a ton of color. That being said, whatever color you manage to get with a few layers (don’t get a light shade if you want any color) is gone in minutes. Yes, minutes. If not seconds…

Shine?! Yes, for those few minutes (or seconds) you had said “pigmentation” there was beautiful shine, but now it’s gone. Non-sticky is right, it slips right off before you even take a sip of water. And if you were hoping for them to be moisturizing because of being so called “lip oils”, you’re out of luck. They’re actually drying! So yes, they are gorgeous and give me the look I wanted for T-Minus 60 seconds, then they suck.

P.S. Sorry, if you like these! I just got a bit riled up, tell me how you make them work for you!

P.P.S. Stay tuned for a new blog. Yes, I filmed a VLOG again. It’ll be up as soon as my kid will stop crawling on top of me long enough for me to edit the footage 🙂

What are you loving right now? Be sure to let me know down below!
