Recently, Arctic Zero sent me a few of their ice cream flavors to try out which was so nice of them! I thought I’d throw in a little mini-review and talk about my favorite flavors because who doesn’t like to hear themselves talk about ice cream?
What is Arctic Zero and what’s all the hype about?
Well, it’s “the pioneer of Fit Frozen Desserts without all the fat or calories. Handcrafted from premium ingredients, ARCTIC ZERO is low glycemic, lactose free, gluten free, GMO free and kosher.” It has no artificial sweeteners (sweetened with monk fruit and organic cane sugar), is much lower in calories, while being higher in protein and fiber than regular ice cream.
I tested out Cake Batter, Poppin’ Pomegranate, Snickerdoodle Dandy, Brownie Blast, and Banana Pudding. The best part about them, the mix ins. All except Poppin’ Pomegranate and Cake Batter are part of their “chunky” line and have little chunky bits mixed in.
I just have to throw out the disclaimer that you do have to expect a flavor difference from regular ice cream. They’re definitely less sweet than other high calorie ice creams.
My son’s favorite flavor was Banana Pudding (with vanilla wafer crumbles). My husband loved Brownie Blast (with brownie bites and chocolate chips). I liked both of these too, but they really devoured them.
Oddly enough, as much as I thought I’d love Cake Batter, it wasn’t my favorite. I think Cake Batter ice cream might just be better when it’s full of sugar and terrible-ness 🙂
For me, it’s a tie between Poppin’ Pomegranate and Snickerdoodle Dandy for the number one spot. Snickerdoodle Dandy had sugar cookie chunks mixed in and was perfect for my at-home, DQ Blizzard knock off that I make with graham cracker crumbs.
I was even more shocked that I equally loved Poppin’ Pomegranate (if not more) because it didn’t have any beloved “chunks” that I’m obsessed with. It is described as a “tart” treat and it definitely is! It reminds me more of a sherbet that is meant to be more tart, so I didn’t feel like I was missing out on any sweetness like I am a bit with the others. The texture is more sherbet-like as well.
Overall, I do like Arctic Zero. Some flavors aren’t absolute winners, but I do enjoy them as a more diet-friendly treat. I am the kind of person who doesn’t always crave sugar or if I take two bites of a sweet dessert, that’s enough for me. I think that might be why I like Arctic Zero so much, I don’t need my ice cream to be overly sweet to satisfy my cravings.
The mix-ins are definitely a big plus too! If you haven’t tried the chunky flavors, do it now!
While some people might just want to splurge on the “good stuff” if they’re going to have a treat, I think most will be able to find a flavor they like. You just have to try them out for yourself to see which ones are more up your alley.
And, now I just need to try Halo Top ice cream. I hear the macros are a bit less “friendly” but the taste is a little more regular-ice-cream-like? Hmmm…
Have you tried Halo Top or Arctic Zero? Do you like it or would you rather just indulge in regular ice cream? What flavors should I try?
