Where do I start with 2016? Not to be a downer, but it was probably the hardest year of my life. I promise this post will get more uplifting halfway through 🙂
Starting in late 2015 we had a miscarriage and were dealing with life after miscarriage. In early 2016, my husband left for Fort Leonardwood for 6 months. He would be in Missouri in the middle of the country and we would be in Delaware all the way by the Atlantic Ocean. It would be the longest he had ever been away from us. Learning to live like a single mom, handling a mentally draining job, taking care of a house (many things around the house, I’d never done before) and just worrying about and making decisions about little Davy without my husband around was tough to say the least. The hardest part was loneliness. We live where I do because of my husband’s job, nowhere near my family or most of my friends.
It wasn’t all bad, though. I enjoyed my special time with my son and still cherish our one on one time. He helped me cook dinner most nights and we would go to the gym together. I started doing crossfit classes and worked on powerlifting. I didn’t blog AT ALL. I just couldn’t. Davy started his first soccer season, which was a mess but adorable as expected. We did some projects around the house and got a lot of cuddles in while watching Big Bang Theory and Modern Family on nights in.
The second half of the year was spent totally different. One word, PREGNANT. My husband basically walked in the door and got me pregnant 😉 It has gone by in a blur. I still feel like my husband just returned from Missouri (partly because he has gone away for more military classes since then) and I feel like I just found out I was pregnant. I’m definitely not complaining because while I don’t want to wish away this special time with my family and son (it goes by too fast!!), I am ready for this baby to be here.
Needless to say, I am excited and ready for 2017.
In the second half of 2016 I also got back into blogging and not slowly…. I got back into it with a bang. I committed to myself that I would post a certain number of times a week and have maintained that – what?! It’s been very successful, in my opinion, and I’m only gaining momentum as I make plans for big things in 2017.
I shared some pretty fun blog posts on here that I’m pretty darn proud of. Some of the best include:
- Being A Female In The Gym
- Powerlifting: How It’s Going, My 1 Rep Max & People Who Don’t Get It
- Healthy Pumpkin Recipe Roundup

But, I promise the best is yet to come in 2017 on Strong Hungry Girl, so stayed tuned.
God, I’m so corny in this post. I swear I’m not always this corny, don’t hold it against me.
In 2017, I’m excited to meet and love on this new baby. To see my son with his baby brother who he is also so excited to meet. I’m excited to start Davy in baseball which he can’t wait for. I’m excited to go back to the beach more than last summer. Drive on where my husband will fish and grill and I will chase after the little ones…and enjoy a margarita, or two. I’m excited to start powerlifting and crossfit again. I can’t wait for that! I am excited to release my new cookbook that I’m working on. As you can see, I’m pretty excited.
I have so many things I’m looking forward to and have a feeling 2017 will be nothing short of exciting 🙂
